We've built a simpler way to apply for SNAP. Based on years of research, our team discovered that instead of filling out a complicated government form with over 100 questions, all you need to provide on your SNAP application is your name, address, and your signature, as well as proof of your situation (e.g., ID, paystubs). So we built a digital tool that checks your SNAP eligibility, collects your basic application info, and helps you upload proof of your situation in less than 10 minutes. We then submit your simplified application to the state. The state treats your application just like any other application – it's that easy.
There are two steps in the SNAP application process: the application and the phone interview. Once we submit your application, a state worker will review it – this can take anywhere from few days to a few weeks, depending on how busy the state is. A state worker will then call you to review your information and answer any questions you have – this is your phone interview (it'll take 10-15 minutes). If you're approved, the state will send you your EBT card in the mail. The whole process can take 30-45 days. We'll be here for you, from submitting your application to making sure you complete your phone interview to getting your EBT card in the mail, at every step of the way.
If you're approved, you'll get an EBT card in the mail – it's a plastic card that looks just like a debit card. The card gets loaded with money at the start of each month – on average, eligible households get ~$190/month. You can use your EBT card to pay for food at most grocery stores, both in-store and online. Most households get approved for SNAP for six months at a time. When it's time to renew your benefits, we'll be here to help, so you don't ever have to worry about unexpectedly losing your benefits.
Frontdoor is always 100% free. Our mission is to build digital tools that make America's safety net accessible – because it should be easy to access the government benefits you deserve.
